Furious
I’m livid at the lack of response from our government to the crisis on the Gulf Coast, particulary New Orleans. Why should those poor folks have to wait DAYS for relief? How long did it take the U.S. to respond the tsunami? How long did it take the U.S. to respond when a Russian sub was in distress? How long did it take Congress to have an emergency session to help one woman who was about to be disconnnected from life support? Where is our government? It is now obvious, if it wasn’t before, that we cannot depend on them. The rest of the world can, but we cannot.
Furthermore, how is it possible that everyone in America knows that there are thousands of people at the convention center without food or water, and the director of FEMA has no clue?
Here’s an article from the October 2004 issue of the National Geographic. It describes, to a ‘T’ what happened in New Orleans and was written a year ago. I agree with my my brother in that if, after four years after the inception of the Department of Homeland Security, we are unable to respond to a national crisis, how will we ever defend ourselves if we are attacked by our enemies? This is pathetic and totally unacceptable. I see it, my collegues see it, my family sees it, all of America sees it, but our government does not see it.

National Geographic Online has made the article available on their web site. In fact, it’s linked from the front page. Kind of an “I told you so”?
