Gay called me this morning and asked if I wanted to go to a bike auction. A bike auction?? It turns out that a local city’s police department was hosting a bike auction where they were getting rid of the last year’s evidence! There were over 200 bicycles for auction. There were older bikes, newer ones, ones needing repair, ones obviously loved, and ones that had a lot of wear on them.
I ended up buying 3 bicycles for $1.00 each. Yes, $1.00 each! I bid on a really nice bicycle for JIm, but I didn’t realize that the other buy outbid me…. I thought I had the winning bid, but I didn’t. Oh well. It would have been a great buy!
Gay wanted to go to buy a bicycle for her boyfriend’s son and maybe one for her grandson. She did really well. She bought a very very nice Mongoose for 13.00 and a very very nice Next for 11.00. There’s nothing apparently wrong with either bike — they look as if they were just purchased from the store!
I wish I had taken my camera, but I didn’t. I’m hoping to buy a new camera soon so I can record these things.
All in all, it was fun. We got there before they were finished setting up and were among the last to leave. I hope we find this same auction next year. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
UPDATE: I forgot to write that I sold the 3 bikes I bought! We couldn’t fit 7 bikes in the back of Gay’s truck. I was going to give the bikes to the girls next door until I remembered they already have bikes.
