Happy Halloween!

I was at a youth football game this weekend when a penalty call on the field brought back a childhood memory:
I was about 5 years old and Jimmy and I were playing together upstairs. I know I was about 5 because I remember that earlier that day, Mother had come home from the hospital and she, Daddy, Granny, and Granddaddy were sitting in the kitchen having lunch (Mother was wearing a white shirt with huge red flowers on it). I guess Jimmy and I had already eaten and were excused to “go play.” The game we devised that day was to build pillow houses between the bed and the wall. One player would build the house of pillows around and on top of the other player. The builder would then jump off the bed and onto the pillow house crushing the house and the person inside.
Jimmy and I took turns being both the builder and the crushee. As sometimes happens when kids play, one person plays harder and rougher than the other and the lesser of the two gets agitated. Jimmy started getting rough (jumping on the “house” too hard and just being tough overall) and I yelled at him to “Quit, or I will have you arrested!” He looked at me and replied “Arrested for what?” My reply? “Illegal Procedure!” (You can see that football clearly played a major part in my young life!)
As I sat and watched the youth ball game, I giggled to myself (and maybe a bit out loud).
Happy Birthday, Jennifer! You have grown into a wonderful young woman. I am so proud of you and I love you very much!!

Jennifer’s birthday is in 3 days (ok, it was when I wrote this!). In 3 days my little fat-cheeked baby will be 22 years old! I know — I can’t believe it either. Being that her chosen football team didn’t have a home game this weekend, she came home and we had the entire family up for a birthday party. Everyone came and we had a wonderful time. After the party, we settled in to enjoy the best football game of the day. Ok — “settled in” is kind of misleading — the neighbors were probably about to call the police on us! To say we were a bit loud is an understatement! WAR EAGLE!
(These pics could use some cropping — next time maybe I’ll take the time!)

Kay had TOO much fun!

Jennifer, Summer, Bryn, and I drove 800 miles from Houston back home with this sign in the back window of the truck. 800 miles and only one honk!

Jennifer and I drove out to visit Jimmy, Wendy, Summer, and Bryn over the 4th of July. I’m just now getting around to blogging about the trip! We went shopping, rode horses, went out to eat, and sat at their house and visited! It was a great trip and I’m glad we went. Here are a few pictures from the visit:
