It’s ALL ABOUT ME!

Jim bought a VCR in 1983 and that was the last time we went to the movies together. He bought the VCR when there was a choice between VHS and Beta! Can you believe it? Luckily he made the right decision and went with the VHS. The only bad thing is that it was a top-loader.

So yesterday we broke our record and went to the movies. And it was “on Christopher.” For Christmas, he gave Jim and me “Dinner and a Movie” and we used it yesterday. Wasn’t that a great gift for a son to give? I thought it was wonderful!!!

Jim and I went into the theater with grins on our faces. We were as excited as two little kids! We bought popcorn and candy and sat back to enjoy the movie. Very little has changed in the 23 years since I’ve been to the movies. The candy and cokes still cost a fortune, movie previews were shown before the feature-length movie began, and the lights were dimmed when the show started. One thing that they didn’t do back in 1983 was to show commercials — local commercials at that!

Overall, it was a great experience and I cannot wait to go to the movies again!

The biggest snowfall in years:

I read this story about a little boy who may lose his arm because. while he was in the hospital, an intravenous needle slipped from a vein in his arm and IV solution went into his arm. When Christopher was 2 years old, he was in the hospital with wheezing. Of course a person cannot go into the hospital without being stuck with an IV needle, and Christopher was no different. They put the IV in the back of his hand and taped his forearm to a board. One afternoon, I noticed his hand was swollen up. It was huge and looked like a surgical glove that had been blown up. I had no idea why his hand was so swollen and it terrified me. The nurse responded to my call to investigate. She saw what was going on and explained that the needle had come out of the vein and the IV solution was going directly into his hand. She reinserted the needle into the vein and assured me that the swelling would go down. It took quite some time, several hours in fact, for the swelling to go completely down, but eventually it did. They never indicated that it could have been serious in any way — in fact the nurse was very blasé and acted like this happened all the time!

Jennifer and Kelly have tentatively set their wedding date for August 2, 2008. FIrst we got through Christmas, next we got Jennifer moved home, and now the planning begins. Jennifer and Kelly are trying to find a wedding location. Jennifer has been looking for a dress. I think she found one at David’s Bridal. She and I attended a wedding expo today and got a lot of information. We have appointments set up next week to talk to a photographer, make her final dress selection, and talk to a venue representative. Wow…. it’s only January and there are a lot of plans to be made!
